A loose adaptation of Bizet's opera "Carmen". Despite the ugly makeshift scenes of so-called Spanish towns and loud background music, this film is held up by the captivating Rita Hayworth and handsome talented Glenn Ford. There definitely was chemistry there!….. And to see Rita dancing to flamenco music is a real treat.

A wench's life among bandits, that's what Carmen is. The punishment of depravity is death. Only then it ceases. The joy of reading Prosper Mérimée's original is something else. Because it tells us from a writer's point of view, a good man discovering the immoral lives of great bandits and gypsies to the reader. Good movie from Hollywood. But we needed a moral point of view. It's as if we were forced to view only the bandits and gypsies.
It makes me laugh that they are trying to color up Glenn Flord to make him look Spanish. I had a Spanish teacher that looks more white than Glenn Ford trying to play this part.
Rita was one of the most Sublimely beautiful and most Divine actresses who ever lived.
