Rooney was totally miscast in this movie. The dialogue speed between the actors was staggered and awkward, as was expression. Quiet simply an awful film. gd. UK

Mickey Rooney playing this character is laughable. I wouldn't watch it except for seeing Leo Gordon and Jack Elam in it. But Rooney!? 'Tis to laugh at.
Cool Chicago crime-noir of the '50's with Mickey, who was born to the cinema biz. If he stopped moving long enough in this flick, the broad-shoulder mugs might of set a bottle of beer on his skimmer. Baby Face was quite a psychopathic 'typist' back in the day though.

It's occurred to me over the years, that Mickey Rooney made it his life's ambition to distance himself from all of the "Andy Hardy" and "Judy Garland" films he made when he was much younger. In the 50s and 60s etc. he seemed to always be playing the proverbial "tough guy" , all 5 ft. of him. He in my opinion , seemed to be obsessed with putting as much distance as possible from his early films. Tremendous difference between his early and later films……..
