  1. So many character actors, you really couldn't guess what they're like in real life. I wonder what Zasu Pitts was really like to hang out with. Maybe she read Shakespeare plays in her spare time (um, I just guessed that because I do : / That's sort of what I mean — we apply what we imagine and know to fill in the blanks.) The real Eugene Pallette was pretty awful apparently, but from the character he plays, you'd think he was just a lovable teddy bear. That's how good they were. Jean Harlow — I can't believe how many times I've read some ignorant person (ignorant and envious) say what a a shocking floozie and strumpet she was — it never occurs to them that she was just that good an good actress, who'd invented a perfect character and played it perfectly. But those who knew her knew.
