  1. Supposedly based on true story, but not really (see Wikipedia). Still, a very captivating spy film, although the ending is somewhat far fetched.

  2. A fictional film but still great. For those of a military bent I suggest people read Paul Gannon’s ‘Colossus – Bletchley Parks Greatest Secret’. These are the true heroes of WW11

  3. Hawkins is a good actor but nostalgia for old movies does not redeem this mediocre offering. Hawkins will be remembered for other movies. There is a reason that one is not will known.

  4. Modern films or cinema verite has ruined old movies for me…they just seem so hokey. What the old movies have better than modern is the perfect sound recording….you never miss any of the dialogue. So many modern films are so poorly sound recorded.

  5. 385 or so air raids on Berlin when they stopped counting. Sometimes a single raid had 1000 bombers. Berlin didn't exactly fall on a day, at a time, say, shortly after lunch when Uncle Adi said, "Ach du Liebe! I QUIT!".

  6. Jack Hawkins..along with Anthony Quayle, were superb British officers in Films. Quayle was actually Mi6 in Greece and Yugoslavia – and Hawkins has one of the most distinctive and compelling voices in Film History! Admiral Quintas Araias! He is greatly missed…
