  1. Despite the blurriness, there's a lot to enjoy in this movie: excellent script, acting, cinematography and sound blend together to make an absorbing story. The very end of the final scene seemed less satisfactory, but all in all, well worth watching. Thank you!

  2. nice character development. Sirk does emotions well. shit print but suspense and acting carriers this story. Reagan saw be tits. yee ha Gipper!

  3. I simply adore Raymond Burr. Liked the movie, a little slow in parts and I was a little disappointed in Burr's role as the 'detective'. Wished he had more to do with catching on to the scheme. Always loved Don Ameche. I'm glad Robert Cummings was the good guy in this one, he plays an awesome bad guy tho. Tanks bunches for the upload.

  4. Beth Miletti, I, too, saw this movie when I was young. I am a year older than you, apparently. I was born Aug. 2, 1929, Understand that I caused the "Great Depression" and all of those rich men throwing themselves out of skyscraper windows in New York City. My guess is that you were born in 1930 on some particular date. Not many of us left now to enjoy those old movies FREE. My greatest thrill in seeing this movie was in having the opportunity to watch Don Ameche again. I think that he quit accepting starring roles in movies back in his prime. I had a private love affair with Don Ameche (of which he was totally ignorant) when I was 16-years old. Until I turned 12-years old and was in 7th grade in Jr. High School it cost merely 10-cents for me to go to the movies. Then when I reached my 12th birthday, I had to pay the adult fare of 25-cents. Nice to have met you, Beth, over long distance this way. I do hope you will return to this site some day so you can read what I wrote to you. I wish the blessings of Jesus Christ for you. I shall pray for you before I go to sleep. 11/21/2016 from "Fancy Nancy" in Charlotte, NC

  5. WHY does this movie have a German title???? I've never seen such a thing before – very puzzling for an English or American movie to have a German title………………………………..cheers

  6. Hello good evening everybody I'm 53 and I love old films all of the thirties and forties the clothes the music the films I'm adopted my parents were involved in the Second World War in the UK obviously unfortunately what was happening in Europe at the time wasn't very pleasant I'm also gay in Jewish and disabled but the film certainly help my parents generation and I just love them all it's also nice to know it's just good acting as Laurence Olivier stated at the time does thank you so much for posting all these films I think they're brilliant thank you very very much and I hope everyone has a Happy New Year thank you take care bye bye

  7. Someone in comments asked if it's an early Perry Masons movie??And why's everyone smoking?C mon man Everyone smoked drank ate what they wanted That's about it

  8. Thank you Smart Movies. First class film in almost every way. A "little" shaky on the method of murder, but that was 1948. Lots of cool dealing, creepy people, and suspense.

Checked Hazel Brooks (Daphne) on Wikipedia. Exquisitely beautiful woman as well as a heck of an actress. Instead of continuing a career in the movies she opted for two lengthy marriages (widowed on both). The only thing in her personal life that was in common with this movie was that she got into photography; otherwise heavy into children's charities … 180 degrees out from being the sexy siren played/shown here. Very refreshing to know this about H.B. May her soul be in peace; Light Perpetual shining upon her.

  9. movie..which i watched when i was 9 or 10..i remember only few scenes that she was an actress or singer..then something happening and she getting lost in train and cant get back bec of snow..staying with 2 guys both of guys falling in love with her..its very old movie..plz help meee

  10. I actually cannot watch this now by myself. I love Claudette Colbert, but can only watch such suspenseful noir films with a good friend who enjoys them with me. I find the the suspense and tension too much to bear on my own. Silly, but true. Will finish it soon.

  11. I am getting old. I never thought it would happen but am thinking more and more about the past and I feel more comfortable there. These movies are my life. I recently was divorced and now have no tv. Just these you tube movies. Thank you for posting them

  12. Always liked Claudette Colbert. After the mention of the (fictitious) Catholic school between Colbert's & Cummings' characters, and as a Catholic myself, I went to an encyclopedia site to look her up. The site, sadly, took pains to leave out her Catholicism. Had to click on the church mentioned in the article to confirm it. Interestingly, the same site(not imdb) made clear others whom I've looked up.
Particularly that of Jane Wyman who was buried, per her request, in a nuns habit as she had taken orders as laity in the RCC.

Lastly, thanks for the upload. A much better film than expected as no names were mentioned in the posting.Very good cast.

Lastly lastly, I'd have sworn, most of the film, that Cummings' character was part of the conspiracy.
