  1. Thank you so much for posting this!! I love the obscure, lesser known Universal horror films.  This will NEVER be on DVD.  Great stuff!! Thanks! Keep these coming!

  2. I like good old movies very much but this one is a poor imitation of British detectives. It took me 3 days to cope with watching it to the end in slabs…..but then, the early days of movies were very much a transposition of theatre set acting  to film and I have to allow for that and not be so critical!….love a good play such as shadowlands and the lady in black whereas death of a salesman was the pits….

  3. This is a wonderful gem of a movie from 1934 – I don't think it's ever been released on DVD. The beautiful Claire Dodd is the lead Julie Verlaine – a book thief who has just been released from serving six months in jail. At a rare book auction she steals a valuable first edition and befriends a man she thinks is a poor artist. The man, played by Jack LaRue, turns out to be a rich playboy who has just inherited a priceless book. She goes to his house with the intentions of stealing the book. Soon she finds out she is not the only one who wants to get this book and people are even willing to murder for it.

Alice White plays Didi, a gold digging blonde, who claims Jack's late uncle owes her money. She gives a terrific, feisty performance and steals ever scene she is in. The movie is worth watching just for Alice and all her great one liners 🙂

  4. Thanks for the upload. Feel inclined to think that, as someone stated below, this is a sort of imitation of British detectives… and not the best, on the whole. The "detective" here played a relatively short but very good role in a very good film: Parole Girl Shared on Google+
