Nightmare Alley is a 1947 film noir starring Tyrone Power and Joan Blondell, and directed by Edmund Goulding.
The film is based on the 1946 novel of the same name, written by William Lindsay Gresham.Power, wishing to expand beyond the romantic and swashbuckler roles that brought him to fame, bought the rights to the novel so he could star as the unsavory lead, “The Great Stanton”, a scheming carnival barker. The film premiered in the United States on October 9, 1947, then went into wide release on October 28, 1947, later having six more European releases between November 1947 to May 1954.
Plot
The movie follows the rise and fall of a con man—a story that begins and ends at a seedy traveling carnival.

  1. I came here for the ending because the remake's ending just disturbed me and I needed to hold onto something to make myself feel better ?

  2. He should have notified the doctors clients and informed them of the private patient confidentiality that was betrayed. Given them facts for proof. She would have been done. She was a thief and just as bad, in fact worse. ? I know, it's just a movie. That sure would have been a boost for the flick though. Really good acting and story. ??????????????❤

  4. After this, Tyrone would buy his own personal plane that he would affectionately call The Geek. I'm sure this movie had something to do with that choice.

  6. Watched this movie after seeing the new one directed by Del Toro. I was expecting the old one to be inferior. Visually, the new one is amazing, the acting is better, of course and the settings are fabulous and so is the cinematography …. but this one was easier to understand and made more sense. I understood the flawless story while the new one had flaws… They made changes in the new one… more violence, more obvious sex and less kissing… because of the times. This 1947 movie is magical. The plot works better than the new one. There was a happy ending because it was a necessity at that time but hey…. why not? The new one just ends in a kind of limbo… I suggest that everybody sees both versions and take advantage of this rare opportunity to be able to compare the two.

  19. This is a treasure! Thank you for uploading, it's hard to find a copy otherwise. I found this during some research on the new del Toro movie, which I'd like to see as well. I'm very happy to see this version first, and am curious as to how the remake treats the story.

  21. I first saw this film when I was in college in the late 1960's. I remember
    how impressed I was then with its dark setting, near flawless direction, and superb acting by a terrific cast. I watched it again recently and was impressed all over again. Tyrone Power in his darkest, but most impressive role. The supporting cast is equally good, especially the great Joan Blondell. A strong tale of greed, jealousy, and deceit–give this film A+, 5 Stars, and Two Thumbs Up.

  29. Just finished watching this on the Movies channel on FIOS. Such a great film, you wont be bored or disappointed. Speaking of disappointed, went with friends to see Suicide 2, i should have saved myself the $15 , i would have had more fun watching this movie a second time
