  1. Martin Gabel played a really sinister mobster. He was married to Arlene Francis. She must have had to look constantly over her shoulder while married to him.

  3. With the Sad State of the Main Stream Media in America Today, EVERYONE REALLY NEEDS TO SEE THIS MOVIE AND BEGIN TO GET OFF OF THEIR KNEE'S AND STAND UP FOR THEMSELVES, THIS COUNTRY & OUR PRESIDENT!!!!

  4. They blocked what I typed! How I wish and pray they would let our real journalist break the story!
They even have me blocked from my own Twitter @realjuliemallen
To try and fix the election!

  5. Movies like this are why I wanted to make movies and direct theatre. After 25 years in the business I'm sad to say it's dead. If today's Rienzi's, (most of whom work in politics) have their way there will never be another live performance in Los Angeles. I wish we had a Hutcheson to fight them! Thank God we have these old films!

  6. By the 1950s "newspaper" films (mostly either B pics made by the majors or Poverty Row in the 30s/40s-His Girl Friday one of the great exceptions) were a lost "art." Here's a goodie made giving them one last hurrah…for a while. Richard Brooks an underrated director. And the star of this film? It's Ethel Barrymore but you don't know until half the film is over. For one of the few times, Bogy is a mere placeholder.

  7. Thank you so much for sharing another memorable movie ??Humphrey Bogart was his usual over the top BEST ?Just loved it when he asked Ethel Barrymore: would you marry me and she answers ~~~~~you are too old ✨☄️Have watched this movie 3 times in a row ??Splendid of you to think of us ????

  8. My mum used to talk about how great a movie star "Bogie" was when I was younger. I discovered his films years later and can see why. No wonder he was voted No1 in greatest ever screen legends.

  9. thank you for posting. i'd never even heard of this movie before. lotsa very familiar faces in supporting roles. the future 'dr zira', the female chimp in the early 'planet of the ape' movies, as bogart's ex wife. this posting is easier to watch than the reformatted widescreen version elsewhere on youtube. i was getting kinda queasy, as if seasick, watching that one.

  10. Good clean print of this film. Well crafted story. Very believable characters. Actors weren't too bad either – just kidding – they were fantastic! Love movies in B&W.

  11. Wow, a Bogie movie I haven't seen before! Excellent Bogie at his best. Some leftist crap in it about how a journalist becomes the hero of a story and a reporter just a spectator… but Bogie was awesome as he always is. Worth a watch.

  12. Ed Begley character is Frank Harris. Mr Begley character is Captain Wilson in the 1968 western thriller movie Hang 'Em High with leading actor Clint Eastwood.
