Double Exposure (1944) CHESTER MORRIS

Stars: Chester Morris, Nancy Kelly, Jane Farrar
Director: William Berke

Chester Morris plays Larry Burke, editor for a weekly photo magazine. Impressed by the work of photojournalist Pat Marvin, Burke hires Marvin sight unseen, only to discover that “he” is a “she” (Nancy Kelly). Having evidently never heard of Margaret Bourke-White, Burke insists that the shutterbug racket is no job for a dame, but Pat intends to prove him wrong. In the process, she becomes the prime suspect in a murder case, forcing Burke to come out from behind his desk and solve the mystery himself

  1. I just love these comedies from the 40s and 50s, especially the screwball comedies. Sure, they don't have you rolling on the floor, but unlike today's movies they don't resort to bathroom jokes or farting references.
The folks in the supporting roles are kind of fun, especially the guy who has been married multiple times. Funny, without stealing the scene from the stars when he tried to hit on the female photographer.

  2. In the first 15 minutes of this film, the female photographer could successfully retire on a sexual harassment claim today! And note the music score and when it appears. Someone was either asleep at the switch or just having a good ole time.

  3. Something is very wrong Mr. Tirlac needs a gym. An s jacket.seen this an it's Chester m.all over the place , guess it's pre B . Blackie

  4. I wasn't even in the mood to watch this. I started to watch a couple of times and then . . . yep, it was thoroughly enjoyable.

  5. pizza flix- 4yrs..and never a miss?? how doyou do it? if you were an actor…selecting that many good roles /movies to work in…u would be famous by now?

  6. Thank you for posting these movies for the public to watch. I was fortunate to see these great movies as a kid growing up in the 1940's.

  7. Thumbs up. About the fifth time I've seen this movie good stuff. If Hellywood could make movies like this again they would be covered in dough.

  8. One of the finest comedies we have ever watched. A perfect mixture of all the elements that created this pure, delightful magic. Thanks so very much. We love Chester Morris but Nancy Kelly and the actor that played Ben were stellar. Oh, all the supporting actors were 99% bang on as was the writing and directing. Really totally pleased and inspired! Gordon Welke and Leona Sackaney

  9. This movie borrows a line from The Greeks had a Word for Them: "Throughout the Ages, half of the women of the world have been working women and the rest of the women have been working men"

  10. Well, I like carrots.
'This is Dolores, she throws high and to the right.' However, Where's the crime?
Never mind — when it finally comes, it's a doozy.
