When the inspector first meets the assembled 'suspects ' one gets the impression that the director's instruction to the crew was 'look shifty'.
The inspector suggested that the murder might have been done by using CO2 instead of oxygen. There was also a Father Brown episode (70 years after this film) in which the tanks were switched to murder a patient.

Quite good! Surprised I had not seen this one before and yet quite delighted to discover a good old mystery that I had not seen.
The hellously of jealousy. Great flick. Enjoy. Good movie. I was looking for "Fallen Forgotten" about the Spanish Flew and stumbled across this.

When the Inspector (Sim) shows up 36:10 and so, he demonstrates how to carry a bindle on a staff.. using his briefcase and his brolly. The bindle goes on one's back.. not out at the end of the staff as is always shown in cartoons and such. The staff just captures the handle part and holds it to one's shoulder. Seems so simple, doesn't it. Especially when you see it. So, how come many many generations of cartoonists can't seem to get it right? Curious that. Thank you, Alistair. A fine demonstration of a very very ancient skill.
It's sad now to see actors smoking. When you search for actors who died of lung cancer you see a horrible long list. And yet the tobacco corporations still keep pushing movie people to include close up smoking scenes. It's tragic.

I've got this movie on a commercial DVD and I watch it regularly. It's probably set near Winchester. Download it rather than watch the ads.

This is a good movie. Third time this. Just noticed that it is stacked with three leading men, but no leading women.

At approx. 48:20 when the magnificent Mr. Sim is swiveling on the stool he comes very close to poking Mr. Howard with the tip of his ‘brolly’ and Mr. Howard glances down quickly. Since Mr. Sim was such a scene stealer I’m surprised he didn’t poke Mr. Howard just to get his reaction.
I know this is a 2nd post, but don't those Brits make wonderful movies!
Alastair Sims, here gets the opportunity to play the wise detective, denied him in the Hornsleigh trilogy. Pity he refused to make more films with Gordon Harker for his fear of "type casting". That was the world's loss!
Viewers of Battle of Britain scenes by Pathe could be surprised on seeing the wing commander fighter controller Ronald Adam appearing as Dr White in this film He was a pilot in WW1 .and was greatly respected by our gallant fighter pilots for clarity in direction and voice quality.
From reading the comments it is apparently just me that is having a difficult time of it hearing the dialogue….no trouble at all hearing the music.
It must have been quite terrifying living with those random V1 attacks…but then, drone strikes must be as bad if not worse.

My mother was in the blitz . She said after a while you just stopped worrying about the bombs. If it had your number on it so be it . But with the V 1, you heard them go over . But if the motor stopped then it got your attention.
