Cottage to Let (1941)

A 1941 British spy thriller film directed by Anthony Asquith starring Leslie Banks, Alastair Sim and John Mills. Filmed during the Second World War and set in Scotland during the war, its plot concerns Nazi spies trying to kidnap an inventor.
Upper class Mrs. Barrington (Jeanne de Casalis) has agreed to take in two child evacuees from London, including cocky teenager Ronald (George Cole), lodging them in a cottage she owns near Loch Tay. However, it has already been let to annoyingly inquisitive Charles Dimble (Alastair Sim). To compound the confusion, Mrs. Barrington had also agreed to allow it to be converted into a military hospital.

  1. OOOOH!!!! Alistair Sim…..You are gloriously amazing!!!! your acting is flawlessly smooth and so inmersive…..so believable….I so enjoy everyone of your movies. May you RIP! Thanks for the downloads.

  2. Alastair Sim was one of my favourite actors — he never made a bad movie — and Michael Wilding was so handsome. Loved the movie. Thanks for posting,

  3. An excellent wartime thriller with top actors. Propaganda, but it does not detract from some fine acting and directing. Thanks for posting this.

  4. 29:25 "Ronald" (Cole) – "'ellen bought me a new suit, two dickie dirts [cockney rhyming slang] & a posh new jumper" "Mrs Barrington" (Casalis) relies to "Ronald" – " Don't be vulgar child, run along ".

  5. I don't think "Ronald" ( George Cole ) was a 'cocky teenager'. I believe he's more keen, aware & level-headed the sort of qualities needed to keep him alive, during those difficult times where poverty & hardship were common place to all.
