Patterns (1956) ROD SERLING

Writer: Rod Serling
Stars: Van Heflin, Everett Sloane, Ed Begley
Director: Fielder Cook

In Rod Serling’s tale of corporate greed, when a young man is recruited onto the board of a high-powered corporation, he finds his ethics at odds with his ambition. Watch for an unbilled Lauren Bacall in a lobby scene… or is it a look-a-like?

  1. FINALLY! The actual definition of INFLATION not the gaslit version projected by Media entire to make the public think ballooning taxes are due to a "poor economy. '

  2. I'm glad I didn't skip over this gem, I caught Rod's name and I thought "Twilight Zone", but the running time was quite long so curiosity got the best me, and liking older shows, I clicked on. My initial thought was here's an episode of TZ I never heard of, and decided to satisfy my curiosity, and to my great delight, watched it entirely, what a treasure of a film. Amazing, most of all captivating, excellently written, I'm not young one can say, and to have missed this film before I'm gone would have been nothing less than a tragedy. Strong performance by all, definitely one of Rod's greatest works, as another had commented on was no violence, vulgarity, and sexual content, that can ruin such films by taking away from that of what was intended for us by the writer, and/or director.
Definitely a must watch, especially for people who have an interest in older films, as I've said, would've been a great loss had I missed this film during my lifetime, what an incredible experience this film has been.
Thank You for posting this rare pleasure of a film.

  3. Hold on… I think I recognize the actress who played his wife. Wasn't she one of the researchers in 82' 'Poltergeist'? YUP! Just looked it up! And the secretary was in 91' Addams Family Movie trying to rip them off!

  4. At least he got to tell the boss what he feels and was able to stay nevertheless. My life the same , on a smaller scale. Great movie. Loved it thanks.

  5. so, Rod Serling's incredible sesibility made him aware of what was coming next, see the sub primes crash and all the crap in the nowdays economy. But now what? soon or later this castle of cards is going to fall and unfortunately the innocents will pay the price.

  6. I think a lot of people take away the wrong lesson from this movie. Yes, corporations can be tough and heartless, but ultimately they exist to make goods and services people want and need. The CEO's speech at the end that the company will be taken over by the next generation who will have their own strivings rings true. I look back at my ups and downs in the corporate world with affection, now that it's all over – even the heartbreak. I did my best.

  7. More HOLLYWOOD BS. I REFER TO ENDING. JUST ANOTHER BOUGHT SOUL. I TEFER TO THE BOSS. SUCH FANTASY. IN REALITY HED BEEN FIRED BOSS SHOT . HATE JAPAN. AFTER MANY STRESSED EXEC DROPPING DEAD HEART ATTACKS THEY CHAGEDVTHEIR INSURANCE POLICY SO DIDNT HAVE TO PAY OUT.
