Classic 1950s film-noir starring Ginger Rogers, Van Heflin and Gene Tierney.
A married Broadway producer is taken with an innocent young woman who wants to be a writer and make it on Broadway. He decides to take her under his wing, but it’s not long before the young lady is found dead in his apartment. At first thought to be a suicide, it is later discovered that she has been murdered and suspicion immediately falls on the producer. He begins his own investigation in order to clear his name and one of the first things he learns is that the young woman wasn’t quite as naive and innocent as she appeared to be.

Van Helfin is such a great actor and this is definitely a great movie
Also came out in 1954 was The Glenn Miller Story by a different studio. I wonder if that has anything to do with the piano player at the party at the beginning playing 2 Miller songs, I Know Why which was the B side to Chattanooga Choo Choo and Serenade In Blue

I've always heard about this movie but never saw it, it was fabulous !! ?? Van Heflin was a wonderful, realistic actor and it was great seeing Ginger Rogers in a juicy drama, she played the villain with consummate skill. These older movies are sooooo much better, actually make sense and have REAL storylines – a shocking concept today !! Thanks for uploading this for us !! ?? This movie in real life had a bit of scandal tied to it, my Mother told me the story of a woman who had just been released from a sanatarium and although she begged her husband not to take her to see this movie, he did, and she committed suicide by jumping off the top of a building – true story, I just don't know where it happened unfortunately or I'd tell. ??
Hitchcock in Cinemascope – as great as he ever was! Tremendous story, great acting – and those period costumes, from a day (in my youth) when women dressed beautifully, wore amazing hats and dresses! Ah, how I mourn those days. Everyone was a winner is this story of spiraling tension. Apparently there are 205 people who have no taste at all!
Gene Tierney fans "Mating Season" fun happy 50"s -Gene's wardrobe ! Reece Weatherspoon grandmother as an strong willed out spoken yankie wife! such a fun movie you will want to watch again!

So odd to see Peggy Ann Garner as an adult actress. As a child, in vehicles like Jane Eyre, In Name Only and A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, she had a wonderful air of authenticity, but here she is disappointingly drab in a part that could have been played by just about anyone. Sad.

Oh how I remember these early CinemaScope views of New York, a lot of these exteriors were originally filmed for "How to Marry a Millionaire" and pulled from vault. So N.Y., stoles, cocktails, authors and an American pretense at "class" So camp although gay material didn't grain
'gayiety" till the Sixties . Alfred Newman's score oozes jazz and cocktails – and the – wait for it is Ginger Rdgers…
At the 35:00 mark, it's nice to hear them use the CORRECT English statement, "She 'hanged' herself." I will never forget my AE teacher in high school, as she slammed her ruler on her desk and shouted, "Clothes are HUNG, people are HANGED!!!" A crisp, clear print with great acting, great sets (even the fake NYC skyline backdrops), great editing and a great plot! Good upload!
Around the 50:00 mark when she says, 'They're ALL lying but YOU!' The terminology for such an ideology in today's world is, "Fake News!". LOL
Around the 01:12:00 mark when the cop asks, 'We just have one question for you, would you tell us everything you just said to Mr. "X". Just my OCD, but that's not a question, lol.
