Much better than I expected. The first half drags a little, but the second half justifies it. Lovejoy and Castle were great, and made their characters real but likeable. Tucker did a great job of NOT overplaying the Becker character. The only minor problem was that Carey's portrayal of Terpe was not realistic at all. Real psychopaths do not behave over-the-top like that.
But overall, a very good, well-written, well-directed film that is worth watching more than once. Thanks for posting it.
Sad movie. I hate pimps. Always have. This came out about a year after I was born. What a different age it was back then. And I lived then and now. I prefer then.

Thanks, Chris T, for the upload. Though Frank Lovejoy and Peggie Castle sadly didn't make old bones (he died at 50, heart attack—she at 45, alcohol-induced liver failure), they left their mark on the world.

This is a great film, actually. Great film about ethics and right living and great for a rainy Sunday afternoon.

The actress who plays the character Gladys Baker that was killed off in this movie was Peggie Castle. She had parts in about 31 various movies, and also about that many various TV productions. She also played the part of Lily Merrill, the saloon keeper, in the TV series "Lawman" that run for about 4-5 seasons. She play in 105 episodes of it. The series was cancelled in about 1962. She retired from acting in 1966 at the age of 39. She passed away in Hollywood in 1973 at the age of 45 of alcoholism. She was a good actress but just never made it to the top of her profession. She once said that she liked acting in movies more than TV because an actor had more time to act and was paid better. She was married four times and had one daughter born in 1963 who is now an actress. She has her own star on the walkway.
