Lawless Land

Texas Ranger Jeff Hayden comes to town to see the Sheriff. But what he finds is three men killed: the sheriff, a doctor and the wealthy Mr. Cranston. Jeff starts to investigate and very soon has Clay Wheeler as a suspect as he took over the sheriff’s office and gets engaged to Letty Cranston. When Jeff and Letty start to get romantic Clay spreads a rumor about Jeff being involved with Lolita which upsets Letty and Ortego. Ortego even tries to kill Jeff, but fails miserably. Jeff is now after Clay and his gang.

A pretty Chinese woman seeking help from San Francisco detective James Lee Wong. Unfortunately she is killed by a poisoned dart in his front hall, only having the time to scrawl “Captain J” on a sheet of paper anymore. She proves to be Princess Lin Hwa, which was on a secret military mission for the Chinese forces fighting against the Japanese invasion. Mr. Wong finds two captains with the intial J in the case, neither being quite what he seems. There is fog on the waterfront and someone still have poison-darts…

A teenager murders her stepfather, a sexually abusive man, after he teaches her how to use a gun. Through a school correspondence course, she meets a prisoner, Howard, whom she seduces back into the world of violence and guns.

She marries Howard, and decides to show him the remains of her stepfather; Howard helps her dispose of the body. After they dispose of the corpse, Howard commits several homicides, although he was provoked in every instance.

Pete Ritchie (Raymond Burr) runs a narcotics smuggling operation to the USA from Mexico, which the Los Angeles Police Department and the US federal government have unsuccessfully tried to stop. Because of Ritchie’s careful operating procedures, US authorities haven’t even been able to find out the identities of his sources or customers and are desperate for a breakthrough . As a last resort, Madeleine Haley (Claire Trevor), an LAPD officer, is sent undercover to Mexico to charm her way into Ritchie’s confidence.
Once there, Haley manages to establish contact with Ritchie’s gang, but is kidnapped by Johnny Macklin (Fred MacMurray), a hoodlum working for a rival of Ritchie’s and who also steals a load of Ritchie’s narcotics. Haley plays along and joins Macklin on a smuggling trip for the stolen narcotics, with Ritchie in hot pursuit.

Agatha Christie | And Then There Were None (1945) [Crime] [Mystery]

“And Then There Were None” is a 1945 film adaption of Agatha Christie’s best-selling mystery novel “And Then There Were None” directed by René Clair. The film changes certain characters’ names and adheres to the ending of the play rather than that of the novel. Though its subject matter is dark, the screenplay injects considerable humor into the proceedings, lightening the tone of Christie’s grim book. It was directed by René Clair from a screenplay by Dudley Nichols. Its cast featured Barry Fitzgerald, Walter Huston, Louis Hayward, Roland Young, June Duprez, Mischa Auer, C. Aubrey Smith, Judith Anderson, Richard Haydn and Queenie Leonard as the people stranded on the island. The film could arguably be seen as a precursor to the modern slasher film, though it certainly isn’t gory, and the deaths are not played up for their horror, as they are in slasher films today.

The film won the Golden Leopard at the Locarno International Film Festival.
