My Man Godfrey



Cornelia Bullock, a spoiled socialite offers a vagrant, Godfrey Smith, five dollars to be her “forgotten man” for a scavenger hunt during the Great Depression. Godfrey is seriously angry and causes her to fall on a pile of ashes. Cornelia leaves in a fury — much to the joy of her younger sister Irene who is very kind. At the Waldorf-Ritz Hotel Godfrey is proofen to be as a „forgotten man”, but he also addresses the rich. This makes Irene apologetic and therefore, she offers him a job as a butler.

Tommy, a family guest is curious to know what one of the elite “Parkes of Boston” is doing as a butler. Godfrey explains that a love affair had left him broken, but the optimistic attitude of the men living at the dump changed his spirit.

Different schemes develop in the Bullock household between the two daughters, the finanical problems of the father and Godfrey. All this changes Godfrey’s situation — but he never forgets his time at the dump and gives back.

Life at Stake



Edward Shaw a LA builder and architect is out of work. He meets Doris Hillmann who has a business proposal for him. They would buy land together, Edward would build houses, Doris would sell them and her husband Gus will contribute half a million dollars as capital. Soon after accepting the proposal and starting an affair with Doris, Edward finds out that their main interest is not the profits, but the key man insurance of $175,000. The younger sister of Doris, Madge, falls for Edward as well and tells him that Doris former husband died when his car crashed over a bridge. Now, Edward is drugged by Gus and barely keeps his car from going over the bridge as well.

Tarzan and the Green Goddess (1935) [Action] [Adventure]



Different people search for different reason for “The Green Goddess”, the Guatemalan idol. A friend of Tarzan, D’Arnot, has crashed in Guatemala and is now held by a jungle tribe. Two other expeditions, one lead by Major Martling and one by Ula Vale whose fiance died in an earlier one, are looking for the valuable idol, too. Raglan, Ula’s lawyer, is searching as well, but only to keep it to himself. Tarzan, Ula and Major Martling rescue D’Arnot and find the idol that is worhiped by the natives. More adventures follow through the jungle of losing and recapturing the idol.

Jigsaw (1949) [Film Noir] [Crime] [Drama]



“Jigsaw” is a Film Noir directed by Fletcher Markle, and starring Franchot Tone, Jean Wallace and Marc Lawrence. The feature was produced by Edward J. Danziger and Harry Lee Danziger from a screenplay by Vincent McConnor and Fletcher Markle from a story by John Roeburt. Of note is that the film has cameo appearances by Marlene Dietrich, Henry Fonda, John Garfield, Burgess Meredith, Marsha Hunt, Doe Avedon, Everett Sloane, newspaper columnist Leonard Lyons, and the director Fletcher Markle.

The title refers to a jigsaw puzzle and the story begins with the murder of a print shop owner that is quickly labeled a suicide. But newspaper columnist Charlie Riggs is convinced that it was a murder related to a white neo-fascist organization called the Crusaders and imparts this suspicion to Assistant District Attorney Howard Malloy. He also publishes this opinion in his column. Then Riggs himself is murdered, inducing Malloy to launch an investigation into the Crusaders. Because the group appears to be getting backing from organized crime, Malloy looks there, soon receiving unasked-for help from a crime boss called Angel, who recommends him for the position of special prosecutor.

Later, with further help from a prominent judge’s widow, Malloy is appointed. This is supposed to put him in the pocket of those behind the murders. But Malloy proceeds to investigate the artist who created the Crusaders recruiting poster. Seeing in the artist’s studio a painting of an attractive night club singer, Malloy then proceeds to investigate her. This leads to a series of revelations regarding all of these characters and ends with more people dead and wounded in a fiery exchange at the end.

Cheers for Miss Bishop (1941) [Drama]



“Cheers for Miss Bishop” is a film based on the novel “Miss Bishop” by Bess Streeter Aldrich. This film marked the debut of Rosemary De Camp.

Miss Ella Bishop is a teacher at a small town Midwestern college. The story is told in flashback and takes place over many years, from the 1880s to the 1930s, showing her from her freshman year to her retirement as an old woman. At the beginning, she lives with her mother and her vixenish cousin Amy; she remembers when her father had a farm near the town. Ella is an inhibited girl whose frustration grows as she approaches womanhood. Her ambition to teach causes her to lose her only opportunity for true love, and her life becomes one of missed chances and wrong choices.

She is engaged to lawyer Delbert Thompson; but she learns, to her distress, that Amy is pregnant by him. Delbert and Amy run off together; but Amy dies in childbirth, leaving Ella to care for Amy’s daughter Hope. Hope grows up and marries Richard, and they move away and have a daughter named Gretchen. Ella also has a fling with another teacher, the unhappily married John Stevens, but she eventually breaks off the relationship; later, she is distressed to learn that John has been killed.

Through all the years, Ella is supported by her friend Sam Peters, a local grocer. Another source of support is Professor Corcoran, the college president who hires her as a teacher and persuades her to stay when she considers leaving. His death is a blow to Ella. As Ella reaches old age, she reflects back and realizes she allowed the years to go by without achieving what she believes to be true fulfillment. However, the years have not been without glory; and her moment of triumph arrives when her numerous now-famous students from over the years return to a testimonial dinner at the school to honour their beloved Miss Bishop.

“Blonde Ice” is a 1948 American femme fatale crime film directed by Jack Bernhard and starring Leslie Brooks, Robert Paige and Michael Whalen. It was based on a novel by Whitman Chambers.

Claire is a society reporter who will do whatever she has to for a story. Claire manages to keep herself in the headlines by marrying and romancing a series of wealthy men, all of whom die under mysterious circumstances. To deflect suspicion from herself, Claire frames her former boyfriend, sportswriter Les Burns.

Cheers for Miss Bishop



Ella Bishop is a dedicated teacher at a small Mitwestern college. The story shows her live between 1880s and 1930s — from her freshman years up to retirement. A big crises comes up when her fiancé, the lawyer Delbert Thompson, gets her vixenish cousin Amy pregnant. The two run off, but Amy dies in childbirth. Now Ella takes care of the baby girl, Hope. Many other stories and releationships throughout the years are told. Then, Ella reflects back to realize that she never did was she really believed in. But she receives late glory when a testimonial dinner at her school is organized to honour her.

The Big Trees



Jim Fallon a lumberman is greatly interested in logging the big sequoia redwood trees in northern California. A Quaker colony and their religous leader Elder Bixby have a special relationship to those trees and try to save them from logging. Jim falls for the leaders daughter, Alicia, but does not change his plan to log the trees. When Yukon, Jim’r right-hand finds out about those plans he changes sides and supports the locals to fight Jim. Another timber rival Cleve Gregg gets involved in the fight as well. They even try to kill Jim, but instead kill Yukon. A dramatic change of heart in Jim leads to the settlers defeating Gregg.
