Reviews:
“During the run of Bonanza we were given the flashback stories of all three of Lorne Greene’s wives and the mothers of his sons. But only Dan Blocker’s mother was given a two part episode. In the 1962 season we saw Lorne Greene meet and marry Inga Swenson with Johnny Stephens as young Adam Cartwright in tow. Now we see Ben Cartwright already married with Inger Borgstrum Cartwright with child expected on the journey west by wagon train.
On the trip is a disgruntled and bitter fellow in Gene Evans who is jealous of Lorne Greene with wife, child, and child expecting and hopes for the future. When some Indians steal horses belonging to Evans he shoots one of them and brings about some events that culminate in tragedy.
When a really large baby is born which what you would expect young Adam says that ‘Hoss’ would be a good name as in Swedish it is a nickname for a big friendly man. Inga would like to name him Eric after her father and Ben says we’ll do both and see which one takes.
All TV fans know that one.” Written by bkoganbing on IMDb.com

hahah. Inger was a thin as a 8 weeks pregnant woman and she delivered a boy already??? She never looked even 8 mos pregmant
Poor inga😢😢😢 Elisabeth and marie
Ash Hallow was still in Nebraska, not even half way. That was the easy part of the trip. You really wouldn't have needed a guide to get there, just directions to the Platte River and then follow it to Ash Hallow. However, if they didn't catch up with the 1st wagon train at Ft Laramie they would have been in real trouble without a guide. Ben if he could navigate a ship on the ocean should have been able to get from St Joe to the Platte.
Great to see the links
Beautiful episode…
Look! It’s DOC BAKER!
I could swear one of those Indians was riding Little Joe's horse lol
The horses and cattle are so cute!
Loving this episode, I wish they did more episodes on the mother's! Fun!
Also it's cool to see the future "Doc Baker" from Little House!
Loving this episode, I wish they did more episodes on the mother's! Fun!
The best of the flashback episodes.
HOSS WAS NEVER THAT SMALL – LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
On a road trip from New Hampshire to California and back to New Hampshire what's my son and my daughter we visited the Ponderosa Ranch Incline Village Nevada in August 2004 just before it was closed to the public.
REALLY LIKE THE EARLY SHOWS OF BONANZA
One of the best Bonaza episodes I've seen! Is there a show that details Little Joe's mother? Were Adam and Hoss from the same mother?
Well, imagine that the foal was reincarnated. The exact same foal that Inger helped get born on the trail 3:23 as Hoss helped get born about 20 years later on the Ponderosa 46:45
If you didn’t know better that baby looked a lot like Hoss.
I love Bonanza. By the timeline of the show, this episode would have been set in about 1830. Lever action rifles didn’t exist but they sure make for a more exciting fight.
Actress playing Hoss' mother lnga Svenson also played Gretchen Kraus on "Benson" sitcom. The moment l heard her voice…..
42:55 what did she say just before she died yaelskadet ?
Two questions. Hoss's mother was so small, how the heck did Hoss get so big? And is Lorne Green wearing clothes similar to Dan Blocker's Hoss in this episode?
I saw this episode when it was first on the air. I was about 12 years old at the time. I remember to this day how shocked I was when Hoss's mother got shot in the back with an arrow. I had no idea how Hoss's mother had died and I wasn't anticipating that.
Another Cartwright wife dies so goes the Cartwright Curse…………..
This episode was in 1836 the year Hoss was born and somehow people are carrying Colt 45's and Winchesters 😂
Such a wonderful episode. Had not seen this one. We are very privileged today. It is obvious life was very hard and difficult in that Era of time. Movie showing much Faith and encouragement. Thank you for sharing these movies. 😊
