After Hoover Dam opens in the Southwest, residents in small towns await the coming of electricity. Hoping to cash in, swindlers John Scanlon and William Brady set up a bogus development company that promised electricity to every business in Gold River if people invested in a local mine. Rancher Gene Autry arrives in town and recognizes the swindle, but his attempts to help the townspeople go awry when he appears to be in cahoots with the charlatans.
