Starring Dean Martin, Shirley MacLaine & Anthony Franciosa.
Like the show, actor Sam Lawson (Franciosa) must go on. He’s determined to make it on the New York stage, even when the road to success becomes a long, challenging detour that tests all his talent, resources & will. Adapted by James Lee from his Broadway play & featuring a colorful array of footlight types: an opportunistic, me-first director (Martin); a spoiled rich girl (MacLaine) whose priorities are men & booze; a young wife (Joan Blackman) whose marriage fortunes rise & fall with the theater curtain; & an agent (Carolyn Jones) who’s learned the ropes the hard way. Their lives cross–& sometimes double cross–with Lawson’s in this well-crafted, knowing film nominated for 3 Academy Awards (R).

Totally boring!
Dean pushing back…"you like girls?? 🤣
A brunette Donna Douglas!
Sou fã de Dean, adoro os filmes que fez, e um ícone do cinema, um artista completo, Dean Martim para sempre
Great movie!😃
Franciosa is a terrific and mostly under-appreciated actor. He was also really good in "A Hatful of Rain" (1957), "The Story on Page One" (1959) & "Period of Adjustment" (1962).
What a great film! What a slice of life! Great performances all around! Dean Martin's role was amazing in being a creep in 40 different positions! Thanks for posting!
New York centred romance is flamably passionate I mean the kissing
This film reminds me of my younger brother L.M.C. He was born to Act. I watch this film from time to time, because it's almost his biography. God, I hope there's Theater in Heaven. Lord knows, there's there's plenty of Stars….🙏😇🙏
good film. I'd never paid any attention to Anthony Franciosa before but he was a great actor and attractive too. Good performances all round, Shirley Mac doing her usual cookie act but well done , no one does it like her! was it worth it Sam? Maybe, maybe not!
Sly Stole Deans look.
Wth? Unbelievable. Best movie I've seen on you tube in two years. No fast forwarding. Dean Martin , Bravo! And the lead? Superb.
The old good times of Hollywood. Today we have Netflix, Hulu, Amazon… 🤢🤢🤢🤮🤮🤮
This is my favorite movie joint. It is one of the best movies I have ever seen. It is a A1 jam. Rick Brennan from Change North Philly Love Peace thank for this one! 333.📿
Carolyn Jones, Aaron Spelling's first wife. And along with Dick Powell and Barbara Stanwyck, helped him launched "his" Career. Barbara Stanwyck was Tori Spelling godmother.
I'm glad that "Shirley" and "Sam" were going to go out at the end. Very touching. I felt bad about "Sharon" and "Maury" though. Didn't seem to be much hope for them. Thanks for posting, dino4ever (Great handle, btw! 🙂 )
I loved it Thank you!
Considering that I usually find movies made from plays almost intolerable because of their horrible dialogue and their pretensions, I found this movie to be pretty good as far as dialogue and believability goes. I don't think I cringed once like I usually do at movies made from plays. So I wonder why I never heard of this movie before even though I know most of the actors in it. Not only that, but all the actors were pretty smooth considering how stiff they usually are in play adaptations. In fact I might watch this again just to enjoy the acting. Especially Tony Franciosa, who I never thought was very good before I saw this. The only horrible scenes were the ones about the Korean War and the Blacklisting.. they stuck out like a sore thumb and seemed like nothing more than an attempt to seem important and relevant. Exactly the kind of thing that sucks about Broadway plays.
"…Was it worth?"….. How many young women and men are dreaming to become a star in Hollywood, doing anything to succeed? Too many I guess.
Saw this on another site a couple years ago, well worth seeing!!!
fast forward to 1:34:00 for the best scene in this film.
*Warning Spoilers* This film is like LaLaLand but with a better ending.
