  1. "You're the most despicable creature that ever walked in shoe leather!" — This is the third film of Wendy Hiller's I've watch in two days — Pygmalion and The Elephant Man, the others — and I swear, that woman snaps and crackles in every single scene she's in. A supreme talent.

  2. Hi, not that anyone cares but I was born in this town 💖

It's a shithole now though, regrettably. The only thing we have going for us is D.H. Lawrence references. The rest is just a few fish and chippies and charity shops. No jobs. All the young people leaving. Even elected a Tory last election. Downfall of a once great mining town. Pity.

  3. Young ppl 2024 won't get this film, with spending the night together and waking next day w all clothes on but in fact she let him take her virginity. Worse she's extremely religious family. He felt so compelled to see her after all the dirty songs and females at new job. But they didn't have all the access to books, pictures etc etc to female images. Flowers all had meaning. Women couldn't vote. Anyway…he was a real jerk to show up and keep her out and taint her with her family. It's like A Place in the Sun, Peyton Place. Anyway…

  4. Funny choosing Dean Stockwell in an English film with England so flush with great talent. I think I'm missing Dean Stockwells popularity at the time. He has a James Dean look. He only passed away 2021 in New Zealand 🎉

  5. My word, Dean Stockwell was a very beautiful young man. Beyond that, a very witty and moving adaptation, I thought. Wendy Hiller and Mary Ure damn fine (and Clara’s mam hilarious) though Heather Sears has zero screen presence, must say.
