  1. The year before this movie was released (1953) Arthur Gardner (producer) and Jules V. Levy (producer) and Arnold Laven (director) made another police procedural-type movie set in Los Angeles, "Without Warning," with many of the same actors — Adam Williams, Edward Binns, Harlan Warde, William Boyett, Byron Kane, Charles Tannen, and Lee Phelps.  I watched "Vice Squad" because I liked "Without Warning" a lot.  I think the earlier movie was better, but I liked this one, too, even though "Without Warning" is considered a B-movie.  Civil liberties have come a long way in this country since the early 1950s.  And, I didn't mind the Spanish subtitles — I was just happy to have the opportunity to watch this movie.

  2. Thanks for this good upload. It seems to me the Direction, on the whole, is good (no mean achievement, with so many actors and so many different "episodes" going on at the same time…), the actors good too, with a special mention to E. G. Robinson of course. The narrative flows at a good pace. The composer fulfilled his job competently. And the film provides a good glimpse of the wide variety of cases that the Head of such Dpt. had to deal with (including the poor man who was frightened by the shadows which kept on pursuing him…). I liked the film, in its "genre" of course. Shared on Google+

  3. VERY GOOD MOVIE. TAKES ME BACK TO THE YEAR 1953, WHICH REMINDED ME OF "THE GOOD OLE DAYS". A REALLY NICE DIVERSION WHEN THINGS WERE MUCH BETTER FOR ME. I DIDN'T HAVE STAGE 4 TERMINAL CANCER THEN. SO ALLOWED ME AN HOUR OR SO REPRIEVE BY TAKING MY MIND OFF THE YEAR 2016, NOT A YEAR WITH POSITIVE OVERTONES. ENJOYED A REAL-LIFE FLASHBACK TO A MUCH SIMPLER TIME AND ENJOYED THE CAR MODELS AND THE ACTORS.

  4. I always like watching EGR in movies. But what I like most about this particular video is the closed captioning in Spanish. Thank you so much for that as well as, of course, for uploading this gem of a movie! I only wish there were more such wonderful oldie movies, provided WITH proper SUBTITLES, preferably in decent-quality English – such as on this video – (so, preferably English, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and other-language subtitles would be welcome). BY THE WAY, I CAN'T STAND the so-called AUTO-GENERATED CC, which is gibberish at best! I just do NOT turn on the auto-generated variety where optionally available. Thank you, again.

  5. Thank you for the Spanish subtitles, as well as the movie. For Edward G. Robinson fans I do have to recommend a couple of movies (and, of course, there are so many others with this great actor) available on YouTube: The Woman in the Window, and Scarlet Street…. Again, thank you for the upload and the Spanish subtitles!

  6. Oh, thank you for uploading this wonderful movie I had been searching for, especially because it hasn't been available on my Cable TV (TCM channel) for a very long time! Furthermore, the Spanish subtitles are an added bonus, and I love everything about the production of this particular video. And, finally, what a great actor EGR was! He STILL had a slight – virtually undecipherable – foreign accent (being from Romania originally) when he spoke English, impeccably. He probably spoke Romanian in the home, hence his slight foreign accent in his brilliant English speech. UNDOUBTEDLY, "Double Indemnity" may be considered the best movie he appeared in; however, "Scarlet Street" and "The Woman in the Window," too, are four or five-star movies, among others, in my opinion. And, of course, this one also is a top-notch film. Thank you again, for uploading this movie, as well as the inclusion of the Spanish subtitles.

  7. Love the under-the-counter extortion tactics used by the police against reluctant witnesses. They'd never get away with that in many places today.

  8. Another wonderful b/w classic of crime and capture.  This is our very favorite type of movie.  When it starts with a crime of some sort, we know we have something to look forward to.  Now we aren't macabre or anything, just trying to stay awake in our old age.He-he-he   Thank you, FilmotecaTV.

  9. I do enjoy the acting especially EG Robinson. But, the story line is a good reason why the growth of the accused rights, search rules and the investigation of criminal actions of the police occurred in the 60s and 70s. Just think of all the rules they broke just to hold on to the witness, and then telling him to identify an innocent man of murder…

  10. On the crappy side for film noir. A few things annoyed me even for '53.Harassing the undertaker to force him to say what you want was illegal even back then. And then using him to identify an innocent man to get that guy to talk was illegal too even back then.
And the silly story with the "Count' being investigated for something that is not even illegal and using a taxpayer agency to do it IS illegal. Just because some daughter comes to you as a cop and does a little of the boohoohoo because her mother may be being used (probably afraid her mother will spend her money and she'll get less lol)
Marriage fraud is when the person is already married and then goes around marrying more widowers to take their money, not something like this which is more in the category of 'puffing' like claiming that you're the greatest lover in the world or the smartest person on earth. it's not a cops job to run background checks on every man a female suspects of making things up, and in fact it's illegal.
A female who says she's a virgin and it turns out she's shagged a 100 men is committing fraud. If she presents herself as natural and you find out her tits are fake or she's had plastic surgery or has false teeth that is fraud. And it's a lot more serious than some man's 'puffing' because it has to do with DNA, heredity and health of your offspring. Suppose you mated with an average looking female who had had plastic surgery to make her look somewhat normal but was hideous before and your kids all came out looking fugly? I'd say that's fraud.
