Father Brown The Detective 1954 (Alec Guiness)

A great Catholic movie for those who wish we had a Catholic cinema and also just a great movie. Watch this if you want to watch a movie without being compromised by the Hollywood immorality producers. I do not own this. No copyright infringement intended.

Father Brown (The Detective in the United States) is a 1954 British mystery comedy film. Technically, the film is a remake of the 1934 Paramount picture Father Brown, Detective, starring Walter Connolly, Paul Lukas and Gertrude Michael, which was likewise based on “The Blue Cross”, a short story by G. K. Chesterton, but confined the action to London.

  1. What a delightful film! An interesting mix of dark and light. When Brown and Flambeau converse I'm reminded of the encounters between Sherlock Holmes and Moriarty.

  2. Out roll the anti catholic sad cases…It's a movie with a great actor.. , try to enjoy it . Another set of great movies,  around a priest are the old Don Camillo movies…great stuff.

  3. I forced myself to watch this complete movie in spite of the fact that I found the storyline absurd and really quite troubling. Father Brown appears to cut far too many ethical corners in this film- lying, stealing, physical violence just to name a few. He sends a known criminal to be a chauffeur of a parishioner of his without warning the woman of this man's criminal past. He complains to the criminal that he is not good enough at committing crimes?

It was great seeing Alex guiness and the great scenery, but the film was quite troubling. One might wonder by what moral authority Father Brown takes it upon himself to absolve a major criminal of his crimes thereby
Deceiving police. He also Implicates a completely innocent man at one point in the film.

Not to get too political but this seems to be the kind of justice many in this country believe in. They preach all this being responsible BS but when it comes right down to it, the only people held responsible are the poor, pregnant women, gays who are not pedophile priests, minorities. The Vatican bank
Can launder all the drug money it wants and the men at the top, the chosen few are absolved of all their crimes. This film said a lot about our society, nothing good though.

  4. Guinness is such a nice old puff that watching him is like slipping into a pair of well worn slippers with a long haired pussy in your lap and a decent whiskey in your glass.

  5. I can't understand the fascination that Catholic have with the cross,. Neither can I understand why Catholics keep Jesus –ON— the cross especially when Jesus hasn't been on that cross for the last 2ooo years.

  6. I always love that touch of humour in the old British thrillers! Alec Guiness….a genius actor…Peter Finch was also very versatile…so young,in this movie….from when i saw him last.

  7. Check out The Reluctant Saint ( free 60`S movie on youtube ) Its based on a true story of a Catholic priest who could levitate. That speaks to me of a Transcendant God who is not tied to man made ways and doctrines. Its a great movie with Maximillian Schell as Fr Giuesppe of Cupertino. Lets love one another.

  8. Boy, if only the commentators of this movie had as much humility as Fr. Brown. Not Roman Catholic here, but can we keep the Catholic bashing down, to say, um…none! Save it for other videos please, where such discussion may even be welcome, if not ill conceived. Great movie by the way!

  9. Speak for yourself.  Many of us are thankful we do not have a Catholic cinema.  Many of us had it with the brain-washing we endured in our youth.

  10. Me encantan las viejas películas inglesas, raramente están subtituladas en español, como puedo reparar este inconveniente?(no me digan que aprendiendo inglés)
