  1. Awesome! Great! Way more sexy than most movies of the day. Bitter lines from a Mike who is obsessed with finding the killer of his war pal. Great twists. Fatal femmes and femme fatals. All shot at night. Recent noir, such as Sin City and Blade Runner, owe a direct debt Mickey Spillane and the Hammer films, and maybe this one in particular. At least this one is the archetype with all of the elements in harmony.

  2. there is this unforgettable line in one of the books where Mike Hammer states: 'In France all women have spinach under their arms"…..as a kid we found the novels under the mattress of parents of friends and Mike Hammer nearly killed us with laughter

  3. I first heard about Mickey Spillane/Mike Hammer when I read "Marty" in High School.  I saw Pictures from The Movie starring Ernest Borgnine.  I used to love The Art Design of these Old School Pulp Fiction Novels.  More racier and more interesting.

  4. This has become my FAVORITE Mike Hammer film. Biff Elliot is great, like a Neanderthal, but TOTALLY incorruptible, and he actually figured out a plot was that IMPOSSIBLE to follow. Also, Margaret Sheridan ("THE THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD") has become my favorite Velda.

I dearly wish all 3 Hammer films in the 50s had been done with this same cast.

  5. at about 14mins hammer tells girl psyche actress he doesnt need his head examined…then th actress directs her ehes tlward his pubic region! one suspects she got the part with more than her acting prowess??¿???

  6. The blonde playing Charlotte Manning was the great Peggie Castle. She also had an important role in another film version of a Mickey Spillane novel the following year, "The Long Wait" starring Anthony Quinn as an amnesiac trying to figure out if he really was a murderer, and which of several blondes was trying to help him. "The Long Wait" was not a Mike Hammer story, but the main character asked questions with his fists just like Mike Hammer. Too bad Quinn didn't play Mike Hammer in "I, The Jury". He was made for it. Peggie Castle got shot in a lot of movies. She died young in real life. I wonder if it was lead poisoning.

  7. the guy who played hammer acts and sounds like he's slightly retarded ,his constant screaming is enough to make you want to cry. i could have been a decent movie with a different man playing hammer's part, not corky!!

  8. anyone who is disappointed by this film MUST see Kiss Me Deadly—another Mike Hammer film. BUT IT IS ONE OF THE ALL TIME GREAT FILM NOIRS AND MOST DEFINITELY ONE OF THE GREATEST 50'S AMERICAN FILMS. (See the newly restored print on youtube. My comment is at the top.)

  9. meeker was great ,a real good film,on the other hand this one is thoroughly enjoyable the supporting cast is great ,the broads and street denizens all come up to par,Blind Tony ,the fighter ,Elijah Cook"i got me a book and library card"Manuels Spanish american bar .I loved the way Xmas was just background noise..Absolutley worth the admission price. No frills,99 cents store.Areal good buy

  10. It's wild that Mickey Spillane's Detective Books sold 225 Million. He had to be a very rich man. His books were selling big in the 1950s. I was really surprised to learn he was an Active Jehovah Witness. I can't much believe he took the Jehovah Witness Religion Serious. Mickey Spillane's Books are interesting to Read. I read many of his Mike Hammer Novels.

  11. love the cartoon voices it's a fun classic flick cast look or sound like any dectictive kinda this or that .if you see these on a regular then you know tough guy hey the guy that was killed was his buddy. he wants to give it to him the same way. but he didn't say it. hammers the og. tough guy slow ham it needs to get rough why you following me

  12. Best thing in the picture is the Franz Waxman score. Too bad about the script, acting & direction. I'm lousy with detective stories but knew who the killer as soon as (s)he appeared.
